Some Important Facts About the Costs of Cosmetic Surgery

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Andrew Dawson When you call a plastic surgeon to determine the overall cost make sure to ask specifically what is covered in the fee that is quoted to you. You should make sure that the quoted price includes the surgeons fee, as well as covering any fees for the anesthesiologist and operating room. Many times when receiving a quote they will only inform you of the surgeons fees without telling you that is all they are actually quoting you. when in reality the surgeon’s fee is roughly only 60-80% of the cost for the entire procedure. This is to get you to make an appointment to see the doctor which is when they will tell you the true total cost. That can be quite different compared to the amount you where told over the phone. It is also wise to ask if the consultation fee itself can be deducted from the total cost. Most reputable surgeons should allow this deduction. Another potential cost factor to have clarified is, if the surgical process takes longer then is estimated who will burden the extra cost? This can turn out to be a significant extra expenditure. If the surgery is done in a hospital the anesthesia and operating room fees can accrue at an hourly rate. There are two more issues I would like to mention. It is important to determine if you will be charged for any potential revisional surgery should it be necessary. One hopes they won’t need any revisional surgery done, but it is best to not automatically assume that will be the case. Some cosmetic surgery procedures have revision rates as high as 10-25%. If you or your plastic surgeon do not bring up these possible issue, you may end up having to fit the bill for these additional surgeries. Lastly one should inquire if the fees for all future follow up appointments are included in the total cost. It is fairly common to receive anywhere from 9 to 12 months of follow up care at no additional cost. As for the prices themselves they are pretty uniform in the United States on the whole. Although in some areas of New York certain procedures may cost 30-50 % more when compared to the rest of the nation. Below are some of the average prices from the east and west coast of north America for various procedures. Due note that these are the rates for accredited institutions and surgeons. It is defiently not worth the risk to try and save a few bucks by dealing with non accredited practioners. Breast Lift $5000-6000 Breast Augmentation $5000-8000 (depends on if the implants are saline or silicone. Silicone being the more expensive of the two.) Face Lift $7000-9000 Liposuction $2000-10,000 (depends on how many areas the procedure is done to.) Nose Surgery $5000-6000 Tummy Tuck $6000-8000 Above are just the estimates for some of the more popular procedures. The figures themselves come from a survey done by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. For more information visit our cosmetic surgery and tummy tuck site. Emotional Effects of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sophie_Lee] Sophie Lee Irritable bowel syndrome sufferers often find that they have to deal with two sets of symptoms. The physical symptoms of diarrhea, constipation and pain form the main part of IBS, but sufferers may also develop emotional problems such as mild or moderate depression and anxiety because of the strain that IBS places on their lives. Theres no doubt that IBS can have a huge impact on your mental and emotional health. One of the reasons why people assume that IBS is caused by stress is that IBS sufferers can appear so stressed and unhappy. But is this really surprising? If you had explosive diarrhea, never-ending constipation or stabbing stomach cramps youd be a bit stressed too! The nature of IBS symptoms can mean that they are very difficult to deal with, both practically, in terms of being afraid to go out because of fear of diarrhea, and emotionally, because of embarrassment and the sometimes unsympathetic reactions of others. Sufferers find that their social lives quickly diminish to nothing, or that they can no longer eat the food at restaurants or dinner parties without ending up in pain. Work or school can become a chronic struggle as you drag yourself in on days when you feel ill, knowing that if you didnt youd get fired or kicked off your course. You may also feel that you have to pretend to be healthy most of the time in spite of how you really feel, because people get tired of hearing about your condition or begin to say things like Well why dont you go to the doctor or My mum had that and ate lots of bran and now shes fine. Thats what you should do. It can be very hard to bite your tongue and stop yourself answering back. Oh, go to the DOCTOR, I see, thats where Ive going wrong all this time, I thought you had to go to the hardware store. I shall now be cured. What is important to remember is that anyone who is battling with IBS is going through a very difficult time, and deserves some genuine support, as does anyone with a chronic, long-term condition. Hopefully, if you explain your condition to family and friends, support will be forthcoming, but if not you should ask yourself how much misunderstanding you are willing to put up with, and whether it is hazardous to your health. This is what Heather Van Vorous says in The First Year - IBS:”You may even have friends or family dismiss your problem as ‘all in your head.’ It’s up to you to educate these people, and then dump them if they persist in their ignorance at the expense of your health.” If they are truly your friends then they will want to learn about the condition and be ready to accept that their views are based on prejudice and assumption rather than fact. But if they still believe that you’re exaggerating then ask them to explain exactly why they believe that IBS is psychosomatic or all in your head, what scientific studies they are basing their views on, and how they explain the success of new drugs such as the selective 5-HT3 antagonist Lotronex. That should keep them quiet. Sophie Lee has suffered from IBS for more than 15 years. She runs the IBS Tales website [http://www.ibstales.com] http://www.ibstales.com where you can read hundreds of personal stories of IBS and self-help tips. What Are Pigtails?

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Bob Decker There really isn’t a huge debate on this subject, but there are some differences of opinion. This article looks at some of the differing opinions related to pigtails hairstyle definition, attempts to find some middle ground (perhaps unsuccessfully), and closes with this author’s own definition and description of the ideal pigtails. A ponytail is when the hair is tied together into a bunch and hanging from the back of the head. Most would agree on that. But if that ponytail is braided, is it still a ponytail? Some say it is, others say that this is called a braid. The same question applies to pigtails, the most common term for the gathering of the hair into twin ponytails (one on either side of the head). Can pigtails be braided and still be called pigtails? Do the terms “braided pigtails” and “unbraided pigtails” make sense? Some argue that “braided pigtails” are just “braids” and not pigtails at all! The Random House College Dictionary defines “pigtail” as “a braid of hair hanging down the back of the head.” Huh? It refers to ONE pigtail hangs down the back of the head, and calls it a braid? Hmm, there’s no mention of TWO pigtails at all! Something doesn’t seem right here. The dictionary entry for “ponytail” matches the definition I gave above. So what’s up with all this? Is the dictionary wrong? Are there multiple dialectal or regional terms for twin ponytails, hence the difficulty for a dictionary to properly address the word’s definition? Has the definition been too fluid over time for the dictionary to pin it down? And why doesn’t the definition include the phrase “the cutest hairstyle ever?” The word pigtail is also a wire cabling term that applies to a particular method for terminating an electrical cable’s braided shield. (There’s that word “braid” again!) Another technical, and even more contemporary, use of the word pigtail is for some sort of wireless accessories for radios or cell phones, or something like that - I haven’t completely figured this one out yet. A few years ago, a survey was done in a college classroom regarding the term pigtails. The students pretty much agreed that pigtails are two ponytails, one on each side of the head, and that they cannot be braided. If they were braided, they were called braids. The class instructor, being of a different generation, had a different definition. He believed that pigtails specifically meant two braids and that two unbraided ponytails should actually be called doggie tails. My personal analysis of this “experiment” is simply this: The instructor must have been elderly, or nearly so, and possibly losing his memory, so who knows what his generation really called “twin ponytails.” And doggie tails? There is no way I could ever adapt to using such a term. The word dog, or anything like it, can never be used to describe a woman with the playfulness, boldness, and/or superior self-esteem to wear her hair in pigtails. The students clearly had a much better handle on what pigtails are all about. So, where does this leave us? There appears to be generational differences and possibly regional or dialectal differences contributing to the debate (if you’d call it that). So, I’ll put it this way: Pigtails are two gatherings of hair hanging on the left and right sides of the head. They may be braided or unbraided. But I’ll add my preferences here as well, because the way I see it, there’s one right kind of pigtail. Pigtails are far more attractive when unbraided. They should be located on the sides of the head, maybe a little behind and above the ears. Pigtails that are too high on the head, too low, or too far around in back, just don’t possess the true spirit of pigtails. And pigtails without this true spirit are simply unable to work their undeniable magic on the wearer and those around her. Bob Decker is a pigtails hairstyle aficionado and one of the webmasters at http://www.PigtailDreams.com. The website tastefully honors “the cutest hairstyle ever.” Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Bob_Decker http://EzineArticles.com/?What-Are-Pigtails?&id=1704 phentermine without a dr prescription online pharmacy phentermine 37.5 prescription phentermine without a prescription phentermine out prescription

How to Use a Tanning Bed

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Peter Vermeeren If you need to know how to use a tanning bed, it makes sense that you find out more about the possible ailments associated with tanning in tanning beds. Tanning in a tanning bed or a tanning salon is not, as many people believe, that different from tanning on a beach. Thats why its absolutely imperative to know how to use a tanning bed properly. Although using a tanning bed is quite simple, knowing how to tan in a tanning bed properly is another matter altogether. Using a tanning bed is, essentially, trying to replicate the tanning process in a controlled environment. The sun tans you via UVA and UVB ultraviolet rays, and that is exactly how a tanning bed tans you. In tanning salons, anyone who wants a tan can control how long a time they want to be exposed to a tanning beds UV rays, as well as control which rays the skin itself is exposed to. On a beach, you dont, and cant, get this kind of personalized control, nor can you tan on the beach in the winter! Tanning beds are actually quite similar to sun tanning, because the same UV radiation is creating the tan. Using a tanning bed is quite simple. Any individual seeking to get a good tan in a tanning bed must first get a base tan, which is a deep, below the surface tan, which can take about eight sessions, depending on the pigmentation of your skin. If you need to know how to use a tanning bed, how long to stay in the tanning bed, depending on your skin tone, the employees at the tanning salon can assist you. Obviously, tanners with fair skin should limit exposure to ultraviolet rays emitted by a tanning bed, which are pretty much exactly like the ones emitted by the sun. After building a base tan, the next thing to do is to tan a little bit at a time, to work your way towards the desired skin tone. Ultraviolet light, i.e. the light which is used in tanning beds is a slightly a different strain of the suns type of ultraviolet rays, but because the rays are more concentrated, customers need to keep their visits short. This is the most important thing when considering how to use a tanning bed. It is in your best interests to ask for advice, and to trust the professional who is supervising your experience. Two of the most important things to take into consideration when considering using a tanning bed are to a) wear protective goggles and b) apply liberal amounts of tanning lotion or lotions. Human eyes are extremely sensitive to ultraviolet light, and due to the concentration of the ultraviolet rays used by tanning beds, the eyes are immediately susceptible to harm. Sunglasses, once thought as acceptable protection, are absolutely, positively not to be used to protect your eyes. Using goggles specifically designed for tanning in tanning beds is the best overall idea, because goggles of this type are created specifically to protect against UV rays. Regarding lotions, you need to consider moisture and tyrosine. Moist skin tans better, not to mention more evenly, than dry skin. This isnt ground-breaking knowledge, but most people dont moisturize enough. By moisturizing you are slowing and/or retarding the exfoliation process. Doing this effectively you will receive a good tan, so finding a proper moisturizer is absolutely essential. Tyrosine, an amino acid that assists production of melanin, which controls the skins pigmentation, is also an element in selecting the proper lotion. Tyrosine allows your body to maintain melanin levels longer, and will assist in the retardation of the exfoliation process. If you need to know more about how to use a tanning bed, or desire someone to teach you how to use a tanning bed, consult a local specialist. Change Your Mood with Aromatherapy

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Susie Cortright Contemporary healers, therapists, and marketing gurus are grabbing hold of a phenomenon that insects and animals instinctively understand: the power of aroma. Scientists pursue aromachology (the study of scent and its ability to change human behavior) for its role in everything from medicine to marketing, migraines to memory loss, and relaxation to revitalization. Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to treat ailments. These conditions range from physical conditions to emotional problems. From headaches to herpes. Dry skin to acne. Arthritis to asthma. The essential oils of aromatherapy are extracted from aromatic plants and herbs–from the flower, bark, root, twig, seed, berry, rhizome, or leaves–generally through a process of steam distillation. These oils may be inhaled or massaged into the skin, after combining with a vegetable, nut or seed oil. Massage with essential oils is most commonly used to alleviate skin ailments and muscle pain or tension. Lavender, orange, marjoram, and chamomile are particularly effective aromas in the use of massage. Essential oils can be inhaled with the help of a vaporizer, an electric diffuser or an aroma lamp. –>How does it work? Our sense of smell is more complex than you might think. Your nose contain thousands of olfactory nerves. While your tongue has the ability to taste sweet, sour, salt, and bitter, it is your sense of smell that creates all the delightful flavors you experience. The olfactory bulb is part of your brain’s limbic system, which is not under conscious control. The limbic system controls digestion, libido, and emotions. So, it’s not your imagination that scents evoke emotion. Aromas actually trigger the release of chemicals in the brain that create a feeling of well-being. Scientists say your body’s response to an aroma takes just four seconds. –>Which Essential Oils are Right for You?Essential oils are available in natural and synthetic forms. Natural essential oils are not oils but non-oily, non-water-soluble substances, which dissolve in alcohol and combine with true oils. Pure, natural essential oils may be as much as 70 times more potent than the plant source itself. Some synthetics are derived from natural products. The exact formulation of an essential oil is virtually impossible to reproduce in the laboratory. Even the smallest variation can produce significant changes in the oil’s effect. Some synthetic oils fall into the category of artificial fragrances, entirely made of petroleum products. These products generally do not produce the same therapeutic effects as essential oils. Each essential oil is comprised of different hormones and vitamins, which combine to create different effects. Furthermore, the effects of each essential oil can vary depending on the botanical species and where it is grown. The effects of particular aromas also vary among cultures and individuals, so the results of aromatherapy are not universal. Still, aromatherapists have developed a roster of scents with relatively predictable effects: Aphrodisiacs Jasmine, ylang ylang, patchouli Energizers lemon, basil, bergamot, sweet orange, peppermint, eucalyptus, tangerine Hair Care (dry hair) cedarwood (normal hair) lavender, ylang ylang (oily hair) rosemary, lemongrass PMS cedarwood, clary sage, fennel, geranium, nerali, Roman chamomile Relaxation lavender, myrrh, cardamom, cedarwood, German chamomile, clary sage, frankincense Skin Care (all skin types) Lavender, geranium, ylang ylang (dry skin) rosemary, rosewood, carrot seed, sandalwood, peppermint, rosemary (oily skin) basil, eucalyptus, cedarwood, cypress, lemongrass, ylang ylang, sage Susie Cortright is the founder of Momscape.com and Momscape’s Online Scrapbooking Magazine She is also the creator of Free-Article-Bank.com, featuring free, quality articles for your website, ezine, newsletter, or blog. How to Quickly Find and Sell Old, Valuable Books and Cookbooks

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By Helen Hecker Old books can make for a fun home-based business while giving you a profitable side business that will make you money and cultural experiences too. You may already have a nice collection of old, rare, vintage or antique books or cookbooks. Cookbooks are the third most popular category among new books and a good one to start with. People often raid their parents’ and grandparents’ collections to find good used cookbooks. To find and buy old books, first check your local library for its “Friends of the Library” book sales. They have annual sales of donated books and many antique dealers line up for these. Of course it helps to know your prices, so to begin with you might stick to a particular category, for example cookbooks. You can usually get books for 25 cents to a dollar and on the last day they have a bag sale. Sometimes you can get books free at the end of the sale. But the best time to go is the night before the sale when they let the members of the “Friends” buy cheap, in advance of the sale. Membership usually runs about $10 a year and you can easily make your money back with your first sale. It’s a good cause besides. You want to look for books that you’ve done your research on, of course, but also look for any book from the pre 1900s in fair condition. They will usually get you at least ten times what you paid for it. Also look at flea markets, garage sales, estate sales and auctions. I found a signed copy of a rare, signed Julia Child cookbook with dust jacket intact in fine condition at an estate sale. It was also signed by her husband Paul Child, the illustrator. The book was appraised at $500. The house was in an area of little houses with older folks. Don’t judge a book by its cover or a house by its appearance I guess is the lesson here! You never know what you’ll find. I also found some other great cookbooks and books there. To research the value I would avoid the usual rare book price guides. Many of these are outdated. The actual price is today’s price. To find out what the books should sell for, go to your favorite search engine and type in the title. You should be able to find sites that are selling the same title and give you a broad range to choose from. Finding ’sold’ book prices are much better. One you’ve established a price, the fastest way to sell these books is to sell them online at your own website or get a free one from any of the sites who are offering this service. I’d definitely add photos of the books. They should be of high quality. Take close up shots of the title page and a sample recipe page. Take shots from different angles. Pick about six of your best shots. If you’re in hurry, price them lower than the other books. If you aren’t in a hurry price them at the high end of the range. Then when the others are sold your price will be a bargain. Antique books will generally rise in price as they become rare. Of course there are many other ways to sell your old books. eBay is another of course. And there are lots of ways to sell them offline too. Be open to different venues. Finding and selling old, rare, vintage or antique books or cookbooks is great fun, with very little upfront costs. With these tips and this information, it should help you know how to start buying and selling used books and cookbooks, have a nice side home-based business, a cultural experience, and lots of fun too. Some Tips for Catching Stocked Trout - Increase Your Catch With These Simple Rules

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Jeffrey Gray Fishing for stocked trout is not as simple as it may sound. Fish that were bred in hatcheries and transplanted to wild streams or lakes are not domestic pushovers waiting for a hook to be dangled in front of their noses. To the contrary, stocked trout quickly adapt to their new surroundings and eventually take on the behavior patterns of their wild cousins. Still, experience has shown that there are some predictable actions that trout will take during stocking season that can be exploited by a knowledgeable angler. The first thing is to know your state’s stocking schedule. Most states post extensive information on their natural resource websites that detail stocking dates and locations. These tend to be similar year after year and bear attention. Knowing when a lake or stream was last stocked can help you predict where the trout have moved to and what they may be eating. Not knowing when the trout were stocked could leave you fishing in the entirely wrong place wasting your time and ruining your big fishing weekend. If the stocking was follow a top water strategy. Stocked trout tend to stay in the top three to five feet of water after stocking. This pattern will persist for 2 to 4 weeks, unless higher than average water temperatures drive them deeper. Unfortunately, the stocked trout are particularly vulnerable during this period to predation by Eagles, Osprey or other fish hunting birds. Fear not, though, as the presence of anglers dissuades many predators from their activities. To fish the top for these recent arrivals it is best to troll with spinners, float baits, or flies that work the surface zone. Fishing the bottom during this time will be waste of your efforts. If you find yourself fishing more than 3 weeks after stocking you will have to go deep. By this time the trout will have begun to revert to their natural food urges and their desire to seek cover. Your best bet now is to fish the bottom or just above the bottom. Power baits are excellent for this purpose, and by adjusting the length of the line between weight and hook you fish different zones above the bottom. Try three intervals at one foot, two feet, and three to four feet. Natural baits such as worms and fish eggs or artificial crayfish may do the trick as well. Stocked, adult trout will follow these patterns of behavior as a general rule. Stocked fry in lakes and streams will be a little different. Fry are baby trout that grow up on wild foods and mature in the natural environment. If you’re fishing a fry stocked lake or stream then you should concentrate primarily on natural foods or lures which simulate them. Catching trout is never a sure fire prospect. However, if you armed with an understanding of trout behavior and a knowledge of the stocking program in your area your catch rate will rise dramatically. As always, leave no trace and if you see litter pick it up.
